Apple Macbook AIR

The Macbook AIR is the World’s thinnest laptop. Apple have managed to cram a massive 13 inch screen into this laptop, which they have backlit with LEDs that provide a crisp image but consumes less power than a normal screen of similar size. As the name suggests, the Macbook AIR was designed to do everything over a wireless connection. You will not find a built in CD or DVD drive on this laptop, instead Apple have developed software that allows you to install programs from external hard drives over a WiFi connection.

Minibook Neo Laptop

The Minibook from Maplins is another solid state laptop that runs Linux instead of Windows Vista. The lack of mechanical hard drive in these laptops means that they can take more bashing about than other portable machines – ideal for students. The one criticism we’ve heard is that this laptop has it’s Operating System locked down meaning you can’t configure the pre-installed programs much. This can also be seen as a blessing as it means you are less likely to be infected with a virus.
