The Minibook from Maplins is another solid state laptop that runs Linux instead of Windows Vista. The lack of mechanical hard drive in these laptops means that they can take more bashing about than other portable machines – ideal for students. The one criticism we’ve heard is that this laptop has it’s Operating System locked down meaning you can’t configure the pre-installed programs much. This can also be seen as a blessing as it means you are less likely to be infected with a virus.
